Hello, Cardinal Nation!!!
I hope this all call finds all of our Cardinals safe and healthy!
We are excited to announce that our 9-12 student athletes may begin working out again starting Monday, June 1st! However, we will have quite a few safety precautions that we are required to follow. We have patterned the Sandy Valley safety protocols from the recommendations sent from the OHSAA.
The High School Gym and Wellness Center will have limited hours for our athletes due to our rigorous cleaning schedule for the protection of our Cardinals. Some of our coaches will have our athletes continue to workout remotely and some of our coaches will be returning to campus. Coaches have already contacted their athletes or will be contacting their specific athletes. Once an athlete is placed in a group by their coach, that is their assigned time and group. The athlete cannot change groups or times for the duration of Phase 1 and Phase 2.
As we begin our workouts, we ask that parents take the temperature of any athlete who is participating in a summer workout prior to coming to Sandy Valley. If the athlete is running a temperature, please keep them home. When our athletes arrive at the Wellness Center or High School, they will check in with their coach at the table inside the door and will have their temperature taken again. If an athlete has a temperature of greater than 100 degrees, that athlete will be sent home immediately. We will do this every day during phase 1 and phase 2 – which are projected to last for two weeks per phase.
While the students are on campus they must maintain 6 foot of social distance at all times including in the parking lot. Athletes are asked to frequently wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer, which we will have readily available. Athletes will be required to clean any equipment they use for their workouts before they start and after they finish their assigned repetition. Coaches will be required to wear a face cover while they are working with our student athletes and athletes are recommended to have a face covering for transition times or non-workout times. The Wellness Center and High School will have specific doors used for entry and exit and athletes are asked to follow all of our safety protocols while they are on site. Athletes will not have access to a water fountain and are required to bring their own water bottle.
Lastly, due to our stadium construction project, we are asking that all drivers park in the student parking lot by the high school. There will be NO parking in front or behind the wellness center as well as no parking in the drive by the High School Event entrance due to various construction vehicles that are traveling our grounds.
As always, if you have any questions about our procedures or our return to play, please feel free to reach out to me at Sandy Valley High School.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to getting our High School athletes back to the nest!
