The Cardinals season was ended last Wednesday by Catholic Central Steubenville on the campus of Franciscan University. It was a cold and blustery day and the game was played on a field that did not allow either team to really play an attractive brand of soccer. The game became a physical battle that had to submit to the elements and the less than ideal field conditions. The Cardinals started brightly but were under pressure from Central for most of the first half. The deadlock was broken by Central with about 5 minutes left in the first half. The Cardinals came out fighting in the second half but could not match the physical intensity of the opposition. Central capitalized on their momentum and scored two second half goals to ensure their advancement to the next round of the tournament.
The Cardinals finish the season 11-4-1, the best record in the program’s history. The team says goodbye to three seniors: Marcus Sikon, Noah Silvestro and Aaron Price. They will be greatly missed and the team wishes them all the best for the future.
