The Sandy Valley Wrestling Team competed at the OHSAA Regional Duals this weekend at Rootstown High School. In the first round, the Cardinals defeated Wellsville 66-15. In the second round the Cardinals defeated South Range 42-35. In the Regional Semifinals the Cards fell to Rootstown, ranked 2nd in the state, by a respectable score of 54-27. The Cards complete the dual meet regular season with a record of 20-4 with our only losses coming to the top 2 ranked Division 3 teams in the state and against 2 powerhouse Division 2 programs. Individually going 3-0 on the day were Matt Gentry, Jacob and Josh Newell. Going 2-1 on the day were Justin King, Devon Watkins, Reece Franks, Cam Blair, and Wyatt Moyer, while Curtis DeLong went 1-1. It’s also worth noting that Kye Mastri became the first homecoming queen in Sandy Valley history to wrestle 3 varsity matches on the day of the Homecoming Dance! Next up for the Cardinals is the IVC Championships at home on February 16th at 10am.
