Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity defeated Newcomerstown Trojans 19-0 on Wednesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
Arianna Ott led Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity to victory by driving in seven runs. She went 3-for-3 at the plate. Ott drove in runs on a home run in the third and a grand slam in the fourth.
Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity opened up scoring in the first inning, when Gracie Fryer homered on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity tallied nine runs in the third inning. Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity big bats were led by Kirston Moriconi, Abby Martin, Tori Sickafoose, Fryer, Ott, and Hannah Deford, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
One bright spot for Newcomerstown Trojans was a single by Maddie Fish in the first inning.
Ott got the win for Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity. She allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking zero. Martin threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Carra Arnold took the loss for Newcomerstown Trojans. She allowed three hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two.
Karley Ingle started the game for Newcomerstown Trojans. She went three innings, allowing 13 runs on ten hits
Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity smacked three home runs on the day. Fryer put one out in the first inning. Ott had a long ball in the third and fourth innings.
Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity racked up 14 hits on the day. Ott, Sickafoose, Deford, Carrigan Pahanish, and Fryer all managed multiple hits for Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity. Sickafoose and Ott each collected three hits to lead Sandy Valley Cardinals Varsity.
Fish led Newcomerstown Trojans with one hit in two at bats.
